Anti Bias ABCs
Final Podcast: Strengths and Weaknesses
I effectively appealed to my audience and successfully “integrated sources and tools” to appeal to ethos. My pitch bible had unifying themes, both visually and linguistically. The sample track list with brief explanations was an effective way to show Ms. Loving what Anti Bias ABCs would look like. I was also able to execute outcome two by adhering to genre conventions. I maintained a professional yet personal tone and had important aspects of cover letters: a greeting, introduction, closing, and signature.
My pitch bible was successful partly because of the feedback from workshop. I pitched Anti Bias ABCs as an extension of “Teaching with Tunes”, allowing for my idea to seem more realistic. I mentioned having more albums related to other topics, like sexism, towards the end. That way, it flowed better with the “what’s next” section of my pitch bible. Finally, the overall aestehic (and even the title) of my pitch bible would not have been the same without feedback. I made the album more kid friendly by having bright-rainbow colors and adding fun graphics. I changed the title from “Anti Racist Album” to Anti Bias ABCs, which not only rolls of the tounge but sounds more kid friendly.
Moving Forward:
One major thing I can work on for the future is successfully using the spatial mode. I had a few issues with proximity in my pitch bible. I would fix this by adding more pages and spreading out the text.
I would also research Cecila Loving more. I was able to effectively appeal to PBS missions and values, which she would also have. However, I think that getting even more personal would help me appeal to pathos. I could use these two resources: “PBS Names Cecilia Loving as Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion” and “Practitioner Spotlight – Cecilia B. Loving”. I could look into the different media she has published, like “Power of Inclusion”, and appeal to the values she upholds. Through skimming the “Practitioner Spotlight”, it appears the Loving is a minister. I could find ways to tie religion with the moral obligation to create Anti Bias ABCs. This could work because a goal of Anti Bias ABCs is to cultivate an ant-racist and loving community. Ms. Loving seems to be all about community.
My pitch bible would be enhanced by having a fully written sample to a song, with an audio recording of it. I talk a lot about how music is powerful, yet I am not using the aural mode in my pitch at all. My pitch would benefit by having an audio example. Other than the songs I mention in my pitch bible, I think Black Eyed Peas’s “Be Nice” would be a great sample song. The song already has an uplifting message that fits the theme of Anti Bias ABCs. I could reformat the song to specifically mention the power of being kind and inclusive. There are a lot of artists that already have songs like this, so Anti Bias ABCs could also work with musicians and lyrcists to create songs with beloved singers.
Finally, through turning my project into a pitch presentation, my group came up with creative ways to successfully market Anti Bias ABCs. For example, I could compare Anti Bias ABCs to the success of “Weired Al”, showing how people love a good parody. What’s even better? Parodies that help children become better people. Addtionally, I liked the idea that along with future albums being about different topics related to bias, they would also be in different genres. This would help appeal to a variety of music listeners.
